Biosafety preparedness has recently become part of the responsibilities for many pre-hospital providers.  With blood and airborne pathogens on the rise, it is imperative that emergency medical personal be qualified to handle anything from tuberculosis to ebola.  With over a decade of experience in construction of bio-safety preparedness programs that emphasize routine training in real-world field exercises, special operations team building procedures and detailed transport protocols, Valkyries Austere Medical Solutions can provide three levels of training to best suit your needs.  We also offer consultation services which provide the most up-to-date information on the latest procedures and technologies available in order to further support you in the building, and maintaining, of your biosafety transport team.

BIOSAFETY TRANSPORT AWARENESS COURSE

Our Biosafety Transport Awareness Course is a 1 day 10-hour course with a training objective that provides the student with an understanding and familiarization of potential pathogens, introduction to various personal protective equipment (PPE) for the operator, instruction on dressing the ambulance to minimize contamination, exposure to operational protocols, training in systematic donning and doffing procedures, and direction on proper disposal of all PPE to avoid contamination of both the operator and ambulance.

Topics include:

  • Concepts of Operations for Biosafety Transport (BST)
  • Serious Communicable Diseases
  • Standards of Infection Control
  • Risk Assessment and Selection of PPE
  • Donning & Doffing of PPE
  • Donning & Doffing and Ambulance Configuration

Certification achieved:

  • VAMS Biosafety Transport Awareness Certification

BIOSAFETY TRANSPORT PRACTITIONER COURSE

Our Biosafety Transport Practitioner Course is a 2 day 16-hour course with the objective to prepare the student to be proficient with the treatment and transporting of patients with potentially fatal pathogens.  Students will learn current bio-safety transport operational protocols in the following areas: systematic donning and doffing procedures of both PPE (including procedural use of isolets) and the ambulance, proper disinfecting techniques post transport, and how to perform life saving interventions while utilizing powered air purifying respirator systems (PAPR). Prior to completion of the course, students will perform a field training exercise which will be the practical component of the final exam. The field training exercise will begin at the point of contact with a patient and end with the delivery of the patient to the appropriate receiving hospital.
